To me, value betting is kind of like fishing. Sometimes you catch something big, sometimes you come up empty. I usually define a value bet when I see a gap between my predicted probability and the odds offered. I use a simple spreadsheet model and sometimes odds comparison sites, but it's still not foolproof. What really helped me was tracking my bets over time to see patterns.
